PERIFÉRICA Brainstorming Culture And Geographies
2019 EDITION / JANUARY 19TH
ART & POLITICS - Possibilities, virtues and perversities of a (co-dependent) relationship will be the theme under analysis in the third edition of Periférica, held on January 19, Saturday, in the Public Library and Regional Archive of Ponta Delgada. The seminar organized by Anda%Fala brings together Portuguese and foreign experts on topics that are central to the artistic community and which impact on all social spheres. Speakers will be invited to cross perspectives and to rehearse together with the public, answers to two questions that are central to approaching the relationship between Art and Politics.

Among the novelties of the program of Periférica, the day before the seminar, Friday, January 18, is a circuit of visits with speakers invited to artists ateliers based in Ponta Delgada and the inauguration of the exhibition by Beatriz Brum, Isabel Andrade and João Miguel Ramos at Galeria Fonseca Macedo.

Between 2006 and 2014, a building on Avenida da Liberdade in Lisbon was home to approximately fifty national and international artists, with a view to developing their artistic practices. During those years, a series of events took place, including concerts, improvisations, performances, workshops, classes and primarily collective and individual exhibitions. With the arrival of the Novo Banco bank, the Avenida space was sold for millions of euros, for the purpose of building a luxury condominium.
Here the building itself is portrayed as a character, hosting some ghostly testimonials from artists that passed through there.
Direction, Image and Editing: Francisca Manuel | Sound: Tomás ven der Osten | Color Correction: Arena Filmes. Based on the testimonials of the artists: André Guedes, Gonçalo Sena and Pedro Neves Marques.
